Suzanne Dicker's Cello Teaching Studio

"A teacher enlarges people in all sorts of ways besides just his subject matter." - Wallace Stegner

Hello! I'm a cello teacher living in Princeton Junction, New Jersey, USA. I'm passionate about music, I love playing the cello and I especially love to teach the cello. I use my time with students to help nurture their spiritual selves as well as to build up healthy physical skills and of course, musical skills! I have been teaching the cello privately in my home in New Jersey since 1997 and before that I taught in London, England where I lived for 10 years. I've also taught children in group cello classes in public and private schools.

If you are considering cello lessons for your child, and would like to come for a free trial lesson, email me: suzannedicker@gmail.com

I created another very extensive website in which you may learn about all aspects of learning the cello. It's @learningthecello

My private students range in age from 8 to 18 but occasionally I will work with children as young as 6 yrs. old as long as the parent is consistently and joyfully involved with practicing at home. I am very experienced working with absolute beginners and enjoy taking all my students through the many technical and creative steps towards artistry in beginner through advanced repertoire. I give private lessons in my home where I have a cello studio as well as a large room with grand piano for classes and recitals. I take all of my students to perform in nursing homes. Some of my students enter competitions. They have won AllState auditions, honors in NJMTA competitions and have performed in masterclasses with Joshua Roman, Steven Isserlis, Peter Wiley and Jonathan Spitz. Many of my students participate in the local youth orchestras: www.yocj.org and www.gpyo.org

I hold teaching certifications from the British Suzuki Institute as well as the Suzuki Association of the Americas. I also hold NJ State teacher certification in Music. I received a BA from Rutgers where I studied piano, music theory and cello performance. I also studied for a short time with Yehuda Hanani and Paul Tobias. Post-graduate studies were in London where I studied the cello for 5 years with Lowri Blake and chamber music performance at Morely college with the violinist Perry Hart. I love to compose music and arrange music. You can download some of my arrangements HERE.

I founded and volunteer directed Trinity Strings, a multi-generational string ensemble. Periodically, I prepare and bring student musicians into institutionalized places for the elderly and other vulnerable communities.
